Samantha Ronson, friend of Lindsay Lohan and sister to super-producer Mark Ronson, is attempting to sue celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton for defamation.
Ronson is suing Hilton, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira, saying that the writer falsely alleged she planted the drugs that were found in Lohan’s car, on the night she crashed in Beverly Hills on May 26.
The report that appeared on Hilton’s website was copied from another gossip site, celebritybabyon.com.
Ronson stated to the court that, “I am not now and have never been a drug user. I have never handled or touched cocaine. I did not ever place any cocaine at any place at any time.”
The Superior Court Judge, Elihu M. Berle, is permitting Ronson’s attorney to take a four-hour deposition from Hilton, despite Hilton’s attorney, Bryan J. Freedman, claiming, “The judge at this point found that they didn’t provide any evidence of malice.”
Freedman says that his client ensured his information was “accurate and trustworthy” and “stands by his actions as being legal and proper and believes that the First Amendment protects him”.
